Programs in Understanding Indian Business Dynamics & Opportunities

The "India: Global Management Mantra" course, compiled by Symbiosis, gives an insight
into what drives the rising economy of the East: India. It provides a first hand look at the dynamic business model that is the Indian corporate scenario, depicting, for the global manager, the complete profile of the face of Indian business and its impact on world economy.

India Management:

India, a country of more than 1 billion people, is one of the fastest growing markets of the world. Every student of Business Management, aspiring to be a Global Manager will gain from a first-hand study of the dynamics of Indian Business.

Course Objectives:

This course is an exploration of Indian business. Against the backdrop of the history, culture, economics, politics, government and the legal system of the country, the course examines how companies manage businesses in India and around the world.

Course Design:

The program is spread over 6 weeks. The first 5 weeks of lecture sessions is followed by a week of outbound business meets, excursions, visits to leading business houses, trade and industry associations, rural and urban markets etc. Lecture sessions will be typically 5 hours a day, Monday through Friday.

  • India: A historical perspective - Ancient Civilization - Colonization & its effects - Freedom struggle - India today
  • India as a system of varied cultures - Social systems - Rural Urban divide - Current sociological profile
  • Indian Financial System - Banking, Money & Capital Markets, Development of Financial Institutions - RBI & Monetary Policy -Public Finance - Center-state Relations
  • Indian Business history - Evolution of Indian Business -Traditional Indian Businesses and their transition since 1947 - Major business houses - The impact of globalization and liberalization - Multinational companies - MNCs in India and Indian MNCs
  • Current areas of industry strength - Emerging industries - Future perspectives - IT / ITES / BPO / KPO / Pharma / Biotechnology / Textiles / Engineering industry segments
  • Indian legal system - Business norms - Business between countries
  • Accounting and Taxation: Indian accounting systems - Adoption of American accounting principles by the firms in India, and the differences between American and Indian accounting principles. Similarities and differences in the American and Indian taxation philosophies
  • Indian political system - India and relations with neighbors - Indo-US relations, an economic and political analysis
Assessments: Will be ascertained as per University requirement.
