About Pune

Pune, the cultural capital of the state of Maharashtra is known by many an interesting sobriquet; the Queen of the Deccan and the Oxford of the East being the most famous of them. The city's proximity to Mumbai, India's commercial capital has seen both the corporate world and the student community evince great interest in it. Pune, at the foothills of the famed Sahyadri range, is known for its salubrious climate and its warm, hospitable people.

Pune is the site of several institutions of higher learning and is adorned with several 17th and 18th century palaces and temples. The city is also a significant milestone in the history of India, having been a Maratha stronghold and having given India some of her most memorable personalities. Many social reformers, revolutionaries, political leaders, researchers, scientists, educationists and sportsmen have been nurtured in Pune.

Today, Pune is very much a modern city, but still retains its quaint old values and traditions. It is one of the fastest growing cities in the region and is also a flourishing IT hub, with several IT companies of international reckoning having made a base here.

Pune is also very high on the entertainment index with plenty on offer for the youth. With swanky shopping malls, gaming centers, pubs, coffee joints, restaurants serving local and international cuisine, there's never a dull moment here.

India has also been the foremost centers of education since ancient times. Thousands of years ago, great scholars used to teach through the scriptures. A variety of subjects such as philosophy, religion, medicine, literature, drama and arts, astrology, mathematics and sociology were taught and masterpieces on these subjects were written.
