Internationalization is one of the major forces impacting and shaping higher education as it evolves to meet the challenges of the 21st century and realizing this Symbiosis took the initiative to set up the Centre to look into the various aspects of Internationalization.

The main objective of SCIE is:

To be a catalyst and a promoter of the Internationalization of the Symbiosis International (Deemed University), by developing, in coordination and consultation with the constituent institutions under the university, series of academic and related activities that would enhance the international status of the University and make the students and faculty be recognized internationally, thus enabling SI (DU)to be globally recognized as a quality educational institution in India.  

Thus The Symbiosis Centre for International Education (SCIE) was established in February 2008 under the aegis of the Symbiosis International (Deemed University).

Dr. Vidya Yeravdekar

Dr. Vidya Yeravdekar the Principal Director of Symbiosis was appointed as the Executive Director for the Centre. Some of the activities that have been organized / initiated / streamlined through Symbiosis Centre for International Education (SCIE) are as follows:
   

• Visit of International Delegations to Symbiosis.
• Acceptance of International Students for Semester Abroad Programs at The Symbiosis International (Deemed University).
• Increase in the scope of the  Study India Program.
• Introduction of the Symbiosis Summer School Programs.
• Formalization of the Symbiosis Scholar-in-Residence Program.
• Conceptualization of Area Study Centres within Symbiosis International (DeemedUniversity). (Proposed Area Study Centres include the Japanese Area Study Centre, European Union Area Study Centre and Centre for American Studies.)
• Increase in the participation of SIU Faculty in International Conferences/ Seminars.
• Focus on gaining benefit through membership of International Associations.
• Gradual increase in Student and Faculty mobility.
• Organizing the SCIE- Lecture Series
