Symbiosis Society’s Afro Asian Cultural Museum

Symbiosis has always been “Home Away from Home” to foreign students and home of different cultures
through these students.

Afro-Asian students form the majority of these international students. With this view in mind, this Afro-Asian cultural museum was established. The museum creates a sense of belonging, as international students have contributed substantially to it.

Symbiosis Society’s Afro-Asian Cultural Museum was inaugurated by the then President of India, H.E. Shri K. R. Narayanan, on 19th December 2001. This museum is the only one of its kind in India. It consists of information panels on 70 African and Asian countries. Each panel provides detailed information about the countries, including their location, history, culture, sports, national anthem, languages, flag, and people.

It also contains artefacts such as bells from Bhutan’s palace, traditional coffee pots from Eritrea, a traditional dagger from the Middle East, a replica of the Pashupatinath temple and a kukri from Nepal, replicas of dragons and religious masks from Bhutan, and a dodo, the national bird of Mauritius. Hundreds of such artefacts from various countries have turned the Symbiosis Society’s Afro-Asian Cultural Museum into an enriching experience for those passionate about learning the cultures of different nations.

This is the only museum of its kind where visitors can explore diverse artefacts, cultural items, and currencies, and learn about the people of different countries—all in one place.

There are five touchscreens from which visitors can find information about each country. Students can also play quiz to know better about these countries. A large LED wall is installed at the entrance of the museum which displays films of all the Afro Asian countries.

The primary objective of this museum is to provide Indian and international students with insights into the diverse cultures of various countries. Visiting the museum will enable staff and students to deepen their appreciation of this rich global heritage.
